Contemporary pools bring the resort lifestyle to your backyard. This open concept layout features a cozy cabana & outdoor fire feature. Outdoor fireplaces really add to a yard's ambience. Dense evergreens surround the entire pool area. Cedar shaker style privacy panels with up/down lights distribute the character filled wood elements across the yard and do a great job at covering up the side yard from the neighbors. White Hydrangeas add liveliness to the space. Nothing makes more of a statement then pillars. Artificial turf banding is incorporated in various areas for a low maintenance luxurious experience.
This elegant front yard was designed and built to complement the surrounding area & neighbourhood architecture. An accent wall with pillars and a textured black medallion defines the courtyard area. Minimalist gardens with tri-stem River Birches, Hydrangeas, & Boxwoods surround all of the stonework.
For this project we designed the front yard in a modern Parisienne style. The design allows for the driveway to be widened & a large landing area to be incorporated into the plan. A front landing will make useable space for a bistro set. An L shaped accent wall & pillars will anchor the landing area & add dimension to the landscape. Unilock Thornbury pavers are installed throughout. A combo for a double border with Unilock Town Hall pavers frames both the driveway & landing areas. A Unilock U-Cara structural system with blocks & fascias are used for the accent wall. All joints are sanded with Gator brand grey polymeric sand. Slate gray flagstone is installed on the porch to match the look & colour of the interlocking pavers. Rectolinear garden beds dug out around the landing area & along the side of the driveway create curb appeal. Two focal Tri-Stem River Birch trees give the garden a bright & clean appearance. Planting the River Birch trees adds height to the design & screens off the landing area from the neighbours & the road. Decorative Maiden Grasses add clean vertical lines & Endless Summer Hydrangeas colour up the landscape. All the shrubs are perennial. To finish off the landscape we installed a felt liner, filled all the garden beds with black woodchips, placed armour stones, & sodded the front lawn with Kentucky Bluegrass sod from Zander Sod Farms.
Front yards belonging to irregular pie shaped lots require a little creativity to make the most of the space. For this landscaping project we widened the driveway & built a larger raised landing area connected to the backyard walkway. We went for a timeless transitional look. Our colour palette consists of tones similar to the dwelling to make the space flow. An L shaped accent wall & pillars instill a sense of grandeur at the main entrance. The stonework consists of Permacon Trafalgar interlocking pavers and Oaks Castlerock blocks. All joints are sanded with Gator brand polymeric sand. The concrete porch is faced with flagstone to tie in the main entrance to the house. Landscape lighting is installed throughout the accent wall & along the driveway borders. An irrigation keeps new sod looking green without hassle. A Bloodgood Japanese Maple is planted at the corner of the stone accent wall to transition some height from the house to the edge of the yard. Planters are felted & filled with black woodchips for low ongoing maintenance.
A rustic medieval design complements this castle style home in King City. A three pillar side accent wall & raised landing area with 2 more pillars create dimension. The front landing is edged with a curved accent wall to break up the straight lines and transition the existing curvatures on the house to the ground. All of the walls and pillars are built using Oaks Caslerock blocks. Permacon Trafalgar Pavers are used for the interlocking. Black Permacon Vendome pavers frame the entire driveway and landing areas to show off the perimeter & add contrast. All the stonework is sanded with Gator brand grey polymeric sand to deter vegetation growth in the stonework. Columnar Beech trees screen off the neighbour & brighten up the yard. Endless Summer Hydrangeas bloom multiple times each season. They also add another layer of height & balance out all the interlocking stonework with some soft texture.
Contemporary & functional backyards can always be appreciated. The goal for this yard was to incorporate a firepit area with built in seating while maintaining an open concept flow between the dining and lounge areas. The outdoor firepit should be connected to the main patio but still feel as if you are isolated when in the flame area. A contemporary Unilock Beacon Hill Granite Fusion slab is used in conjunction with Unilock Copthorne Basalt Paver to add some texture and colour variation. The main pavers are smooth, & the accents are pitched. The pitched accents are strategically inserted to boldly break up the textures. An L shaped accent wall & 2 pillars are built the corner of the dining area. Large precast Oaks Aria steps are put in places with grade changes to even out the grade changes & prevent future movement of the stonework. Joints are sanded with Gator brand polymeric sand to deter future weed growth. A Bloodgood Japanese Maple & Columnar Beech trees are planted to screen off the rest of the yard & neighbours from the patio area. Maiden Grasses & Hydrangeas are planted to break up the stonework with some soft textures and brighten up the space. An irrigation system will keep the brand new Kentucky Bluegrass sod looking green. Lighting is put in treed areas. Uplighting makes the trees dazzle at night.
This contemporary backyard has it all. Pool, outdoor kitchen, hot tub, outdoor firepit, built-in dining area, surround sound, you name it! One size solid 90mm Rinox slabs installed throughout & jointed with Gator brand polymeric sand. Cascading firepit & outdoor kitchen area give the place layers of dimension. Two Baby Blue Spruce trees were planted at each side of the hot tub for privacy and a cottage like feel in the city. Yews were planted along fencelines to add some colour and soften up all of the hard surfaces. An Endless Summer Hydrangea hedge planted along the outdoor fireplace produces constant flowers throughout the summer & fall seasons. Purple Beech trees on each side of the rear veranda and at the corner of the home make a statement & transition the height from the Blue Spruce trees through the rest of the yard. Black granite natural stone installed on the rear veranda contrasts the stonework. Only evergreen plants were planted at the rear of the yard to avoid debris entering the pool. This low maintenance backyard has no grass left, only perennial shrubs in its place.
