FAQs

1. What is landscaping?

Modern landscaping refers to the designing, planning, and construction of gardens and other features that create useable space for outdoor activities and enhance the appearance around a home. Landscaping includes hardscaping and softscaping.

2. What is Hardscaping and Softscaping?

Hardscaping is as it sounds; the hard, unmovable materials that make up your yard. Stonework, patios, entranceways, retaining walls, pools, water features, and decks are all examples of hardscape design elements. These elements are solid and unchanging. Softscaping features are living and growing. Gardens, flowers, plants, mulch, trees, and shrubs are all examples of softscaping. These features often change as they grow and adapt to our climate and other conditions.

3. Is landscape design necessary? Why should I work with a landscape designer?

Yes, a landscape designer can support you with all aspects of landscaping including:

  • Idea generation
  • Site analysis
  • Conceptual design
  • Construction planning

A proper landscape design bridges the gap between imagination, and expectation. Seeing a scaled version of your yard and learning how the parts interact in both 2D and 3D can be the difference between disappointment and elation. Our design team's expertise will make sure you are getting what you want and that our construction crews will build what you have seen. This means no surprises or disappointments for both you and us.

4. What is involved in the landscape design process?

The design process begins with an initial consultation with one of our designers to discuss the homeowners' dreams and goals. At this time, any site surveys or architectural drawings should be provided to the designer. A first draft of the design should be expected within 2-4 weeks of the consultation. The homeowner will then provide any revisions they would like to see in the design. A certain amount of revisions are included in the design fee, and additional revisions will be charged at an hourly rate.

5. What is the duration of the average landscaping project?

This entirely depends on the scope of the project. Smaller landscaping projects can often be completed in 1 or 2 days. Larger projects, involving landscaping the entire property and which may include a pool, outdoor kitchen and cabana could be completed in a minimum of 1-3 months.

6. How much does landscaping cost in Ontario?

Assuming that you are asking for all key components; hardscaping, softscaping, driveway, fencing, outdoor kitchen, pool, cabana/pergola, a realistic range is 5% - 15% of your homes total value. Project pricing however is very dynamic so your project price may be higher or lower based on-site conditions, access, scope of work, materials, etc.
